Millions of people watched Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show, yet some of those viewers had several issues with his performance.
According to a report TMZ published on Tuesday, March 25, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received 125 complaints about K.Dot's set at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. People apparently took issue with the inappropriate lyrics, the anti-American themes and the moments where Lamar grabbed his crotch. They also complained that he only used Black backup dancers and used his set to be divisive, especially during a scene when the American flag was split up.
The outlet notes that at least 10 complaints referred to the jabs Lamar took at Drake during the performance. Some people thought the GNX rapper placed too much focus on his "personal vendetta" with Drizzy by mentioning his lawsuit against UMG and alluding to allegations that his foe is a pedophile. The complainers also had an issue with Serena William's involvement with the performance. They claimed she promoted gang culture when she did the c-walk while Lamar performed "Not Like Us."
"Kendrick lamar made fake false and scandalous claims that are unfounded," one of the complainers wrote. "He [said] drake was a pedophile on TV in front of million of ppl, do better, this is a sad day."
Kendrick Lamar's performance at the Super Bowl racked up over 133.5 million viewers around the world. While 125 may seem like a lot to some, it's nothing compared to the amount of complaints other artists received over the past few years. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira racked up over 1,300 complaints following their joint performance in 2020. Meanwhile, Rihanna was hit with more than 100 complaints.
