YNW Melly might have to reconsider his legal representation after police launched an investigation into his attorney.

On Monday, January 6, the Broward County native appeared for a court hearing with his legal team. Melly, born Jamell Demons, walked into the courtroom wearing a red jumpsuit without his signature long dreads. The hearing was held ahead of his upcoming double murder retrial, but the court was more focused on one of his lawyers. According to WPLG Local 10, the Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating Raven Liberty for alleged witness tampering.

"Mr. Demons has to make an informed decision about who he wants his lawyers," the judge said.

Liberty has not been charged with anything at this time. She was not in the courtroom for the hearing due to a flight delay. YNW Melly's team claimed Liberty hadn't seen the defendant in person for over a year and wanted time to find out the full scale of the investigation. They also agreed that the team can't continue until they speak with Melly to see if he wants Liberty and the other attorneys to represent him. The judge scheduled another hearing to determine how to move forward for Tuesday morning.

As the judge mentioned, YNW Melly has been locked up since he was arrested and charged with double murder in 2019. He was accused of killing his two friends and making it look like a drive-by shooting. He faced his charges during a trial in 2023 but it ended in a mistrial. A judge ordered him to face a retrial in September.
