Middle Georgia Juneteenth events

There are several events being held in the midstate to recognize Juneteenth.

#BlockTheHate

An event scheduled for Friday, June 19 in downtown Macon. Artists and community members plan to create a public art installation surrounding the Confederate Men of Bibb County statue which sits at the corner of Second St. and Cotton Ave. The installation will serve to protect the statue from vandalism until it can be moved, organizers say.

Juneteenth Drive-In Celebration

Hosted by the Macon Centreplex and the Tubman Museum, this event features a showing of the movie Dream Girls. This drive-in theater event will happen between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. at the Macon Coliseum, located at 200 Coliseum Dr. Suggsted donations of $25 per vehicle will go towards supporting the Tubman Museum.

Gates open at 7 p.m. Spaces are first come, first served, with about 170 parking spots available. Restrooms will be available onsite.Get more information here.

Milledgeville-Baldwin Ministerial Alliance -- Juneteenth events

Walk of Unitytaking place June 19 in the parking lot of the Mary Vinson Library. Demonstraters will walk to the Peace Monument on Hancock St., starting at 10:40 a.m. APrayer for the Nationswill then take place at the Peace Monument starting at 11 a.m.

Milledgeville-Baldwin Ministerial Alliance will then speak with the community about systemic racism and how to take action. Starting at 1 p.m., Southern Black Belt expert Dr. Veronica Womack willgive a virtual presentation via Zoomon the history of Juneteenth, Black Wall St. in Tulsa, and the challenges faced by black Americans.

Juneteenth: Celebration Of Black Excellence

This event, hosted by Warner Robins Matters, is free and open to the public from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday. A Facebook event says there will be music, games, food trucks, vendors, and more.

Organizers add that businesses will be onsite to accept resumes from job seekers, voter registration, and a Census check. Hand sanitizer and portable bathrooms will be available.Find more information here.
