Vic Mensa Gets Real About Stigmas Of Mental Health In Black Community

Our Change 4 Change Radiothon is officially underway and so far we have seen insanely generous donations. This year we are donating to Project 375. Founded in 2012 by NFL wide-receiver Brandon Marshall and his wife Michi, Project 375 is a national non-profit dedicated to the needs of adolescents by providing parents, teachers and staff members with Youth Mental Health First Aid Training all across the country.

Vic Mensa stopped by the studio this morning to talk about his own journey with mental health. "I've been vocal about my struggles with mental health through my music and just in my public discourse for some time now," says Vic, "It's honestly my way of coming to terms with it, to cope with it." Vic was diagnosed with some things by a psychiatrist when he was just 15-years-old. "There was one day that I remember walking into school and everything just felt different to me. The room became still and I felt a certain numbness I hadn't felt before."

We are in a time now that is calling for change and stigma around mental health. Thanks to people like Vic we can bring awareness to this important issue.
