Adele Files For Divorce From Estranged Husband Simon Konecki

59th GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Adele has officially filed for divorce from her estranged husband Simon Konecki, Us Weekly confirmed Thursday (September 12).

The filing comes after the pair of more than seven years, who quietly tied the knot in 2016, announced their separation nearly five months ago. At the time, the "Hello" singer's representative told PEOPLE in a statement in April: “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

According to the outlet, a source said Adele and Konecki's "relationship evolved and they became more like friends than lovers" after realizing "the romantic love was no longer there," and were also "disappointed" things "didn't work out."

As fans know, the Grammy-winning artist and the Life Water co-founder went public with their romance in January 2012. Months after, the couple welcomed a son, Angelo, born on October 19, 2012.

News of the lovebirds' secret marriage came as a surprise at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, where Adele revealed her union when she referred to Konecki as her "husband" while accepting the trophy for Album of the Year. "Grammys, I appreciate it. The Academy, I love you. My manager, my husband, and my son — you’re the only reason I do it."

Since announcing their split, Adele appears to be living her best life as a newly-single woman. Earlier this month, a source also told PEOPLE the 31-year-old musician "is definitely getting ready both mentally and physically to promote new music … later this year."
