Congressman Honors Female Rappers In House of Representatives Presentation

Women's History Month has been speeding by quickly with half of the month already behind us. But, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) couldn't let it end without honoring some women whom he respects for the contributions to music and society.

On Tuesday (March 13), the congressman -- who's born and bred in Brooklyn, New York -- took some time to tribute some iconic female hip hop artists while speaking at the House. “Throughout the years, artists such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen have been recognized on the floor of the House of Representatives,” Jeffries said. “Today, I rise to honor the top 10 female MC hip-hop collaborations of all time.”

Then, Jeffries paid respects to Eve's verse on "My Chick Bad," Monie Love's verse on "My Buddy," Missy Elliott's "Hot Boyz," Lauryn Hill's "Ready Or Not," Remy Ma's bars on "Ante up (Remix)" and more. “As we celebrate Women’s History Month here in the United States’ Congress, these dynamic women are worthy to be praised,” he continued, before speaking about other femcees like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte.

If his name sounds familiar to you, Rep. Jeffries is the same congressman who honored The Notorious B.I.G. last year on the 20th anniversary of his death. Shoutout to him for publicly showing respect to monumental rappers -- female ones specifically this time -- in a setting like the House where they would otherwise be ignored.
