On Wednesday, Jesse Jackson Jr. was sentenced to 30 months in prison and a 36-month term of supervised release. Local reports also say that his wife Sandi Jackson was sentenced to 12 months in prison after being found guilty of tax fraud.

In February, Jackson Jr. was charged with conspiracy, making false statements, mail and wire fraud after spending more than $750,000 in campaign funds for personal use.

"I misled the American people," he said in a statement to the court. "I misled the House of Representatives. I misled the media by filing my reports. I was wrong. And I don't fault anyone. And I hope even those who still support me don't hold any judgment against you."
